Virat Kohli rose to fame after leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia, in 2008. . He was immediately propelled into the IPL – the Indian T20 League in 2008 and has since been a part of the Bangalore franchise. In the 2010 season, Kohli was the third highest run-scorer for his team with 307 runs in IPL 2010, with strike rate to 144.81.
Before the IPL season 2011, Kohli was the only player retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. Kohli became vice-captain of the team that year and also captained the team in a few matches when the regular skipper Daniel Vettori was injured. Kohli was the second-highest run-scorer of the season, and team finished as runners-up of the IPL. Kohli accumulated a total of 557 runs with a strike rate of over 121.
At the 2016 IPL, Kohli scored 973 runs in 16 matches and broke the record for most runs in an IPL season of 733 runs and winning the Orange Cap. The Royal Challengers finished runners-up and he scored four centuries in the tournament. In the 2018 season, Kohli was retained by RCB for a price of ₹17 crore, the highest for any player that year.
